Treating Varicose Veins with Turmeric
Varicose veins are a common condition that is associated with ageing but can still make people feel extremely uncomfortable. The appearance of dark blue or purple veins bulging out from the skin is not the ideal look for many people, which is why the use of home remedies to treat varicose veins has become extremely common.
Some people who suffer from varicose veins also have other symptoms such as pain, discomfort, a feeling of heaviness in the legs, or even a burning sensation.
Essentially, varicose veins are caused by our veins losing elasticity over time resulting in them becoming either weak or stretched out. As a result, there are disruptions in blood flow that lead in blood flowing backwards and pooling in certain places in the small valves inside our veins.
While this condition is common amongst people who are of old age, it is also seen in many young adults who are obese, have high blood cholesterol levels, consume oral contraceptives, or have professions that require them to remain seated for extended periods of time.
Why use Turmeric?
Amongst the long list of home remedies associated with treating varicose veins is the use of turmeric. Turmeric is a popular spice that is not only delicious in curries but is also used for a wide variety of purposes apart from flavoring and coloring food.
While turmeric was once used to color items in textile, it is now commonly used in cosmetic items, perfumes, skin care products, and even as a remedy to treat many health problems. The reason why turmeric has so many uses is due to its primary component: curcumin. Curcumin is known for its multiple antioxidant properties, making it an ingredient that is highly beneficial for good health.
Here are a few important properties of turmeric:
A majority of health problems in humans stem from our body parts suffering from inflammation. By consuming turmeric regularly, you can naturally reduce this inflammation and enjoy a healthier body.
- Blood Cleanser
Scientific research has concluded that turmeric allows the liver to dispose off toxins that may have collected in the body. Additionally, it also aided the liver in producing helpful enzymes that helped the liver perform its functions more effectively. The fewer the toxins present in our body, the lesser the chance of us catching a disease.
- Better Digestive System
Turmeric helps our body digest food more effectively. In case you have an upset stomach, consuming turmeric is likely to end your discomfort in a natural way. Since turmeric is already popular as a culinary spice, adding it to your food regularly can help you avoid many gastrointestinal problems and have a better digestive system.
Turmeric for Varicose Veins
Now, what do all of these properties have to do with varicose veins? Well, a lot.
Through its anti-inflammatory properties, turmeric reduces the burning sensation in our legs caused by varicose veins and eases the discomfort.
Since turmeric is also a blood cleanser, it inhibits blood platelet aggregation and leads to thinner blood. This is especially useful in treating varicose veins as it allows for smoother blood flow throughout the body, allowing the small valves in the veins to return to their normal function.
Additionally, varicose veins have been linked to many digestive problems. By consuming turmeric and resolving all digestion related issues in your body, you can reduce your chance of developing varicose veins in the future.
Using Turmeric as a Home Remedy
Apart from these generalized uses of turmeric, you can also use this culinary spice specifically to treat varicose veins. Many people recommend mixing one teaspoon of turmeric powder in a glass of hot milk and drinking this mixture at least twice daily to treat varicose veins.
The reason why this home remedy helps is because turmeric eases the pain and swelling caused by varicose veins, and also detoxifies your blood by helping your liver create beneficial enzymes. Alongside of this, turmeric also helps in thinning your blood and improving blood flow which results in a reduction of the symptoms of varicose veins.
Does It Work?
Since a majority of people tend to recommend turmeric for varicose veins in specific, we decided to try the hot milk a try ourselves. While we know that turmeric has a wide range of health benefits, we did not seem to find a correlation with turmeric and treating varicose veins.
The main reason behind this can be attributed to the bitter taste of turmeric and hot milk – and having to drink that mixture twice daily in order to see tangible improvements in the appearance of varicose veins.
Apart from this reason, since we are only consuming a tablespoon or two of turmeric daily, it is impossible to see quick results with this home remedy. While there was a slight improvement in the swelling and inflammation, the results were only short-term, and the remedy could not be relied upon as a long-term solution.
Testing an alternative: The Blue Light Therapy Pen
Since the turmeric home remedy refused to prove beneficial to treat varicose veins, we decided to switch to the Varicose Vein Remover Pen.
This solution is to be applied once daily, seven days a week in order to see results. We were able to see improvements in the appearance of varicose veins within 30 days of using the varicose vein remover pen. Not only does this therapy help with the appearance of active varicose veins, but also reduces the appearance of scars on the skin caused by having varicose veins in the past.
Since the pen is completely natural and does not contain any sort of UV, it is safe to use on the skin for all individuals.
In our opinion, the varicose vein remover blue light therapy pen works as a better home remedy than any other temporary solution you can find today.
